summer games

A couple of years ago Adriane Weihing, my doubles partner my sophomore and junior year, decided to go play in the summer games. We didn't do very well, basically we got screwed over but we won't get into that. We got 4th place, and we were only 1 point away from getting the bronze medal. We had fun, just wished we would've done better.

Last year I didn't get to go to summer games because I had girls camp. I was soo mad that they were both the same time. My first thought was that I was NOT going to girls camp because I had to go to summer games. After a couple of talks and a lot of thinking, I decided that girls camp was the better choice, and that I was going to survive even though I had to miss something VERY important to me.

This year I looked at the dates and I was soo excited to find that they weren't at the same time and I would be able to go to both. Girls camp got pushed back a week this year because of bad weather previous years, so I got to go to both. :) I signed myself up for singles (which I have NEVER played). The day after I signed myself up I asked Gabbi Guymon, my tennis partner this year, if she wanted to come play with me. She couldn't come because she was trying out for Snow College softball and she needed to get ready for that, and she was also on two county softball teams.

After I found out that Gabbi couldn't go, I asked Adri if she wanted to come play with me. She also couldn't go because she was taking her finals for her college class the same time.

I was soo dissapointed when I found out that both of them couldn't do it because I love playing doubles, it's what I play!

I decided to text Marqui Moss, who was 2nd doubles on varsity this year, and she's only been playing for a year. I never got a text back from her, so I just assumed that she didn't want to come play with me. I texted a couple of other girls that I thought might be at the level of play for summer games but they both couldn't go.

About two days before the final deadline to register, I decided to text marqui again to ask her. I looked at my phone right after I sent the text and it said "invalid destination". So I looked at my previous texts and they also didn't send, so that's why she never texted me back. She doesn't have texting. I called her that night and talked to her. Her and her parents thought it was a great idea but they had to talk it out and figure everything out and they would tell me the next day.

The next day was Thursday and it was the night of "The Last Run For Coach Gardner". I saw her and the run, and she told me that she could go. Right after the run I ran home so that I could hurry and register her before the deadline. The website wouldn't let me register her and I was sooo frustrated!! Luckily, I knew the lady in charge pretty well, so I got ahold of her and she got her registered and everything was good.

About a week before summer games my dad told me that I needed to drive because he had to go to Beaver the next day and he couldn't leave my mom home alone. The day before we had to leave, my car basically died. I was so frustrated and I didn't know what to do. My dad, being the amazing person that he is, decided that he would drive us, come back to Castle Dale, go to Beaver the next day, come back to Castle Dale, then on Saturday he would come back for my nieces birthday party and to pick us up. Keep in mind that he was doing all of this with a hurt knee, driving a stick shift! He is such an amazing person, and he has supported me in tennis more than anybody!

I was soo nervous to play! I didn't know what kind of competition I was up for, and I didn't even really know how well I would do at singles because I don't play singles. We were really busy because I was playing singles, Marqui was playing singles, and we were playing doubles. We didn't exactly have a lot of time to do anything. We had to go check in at SUU before every match to get our tennis balls and then go to wherever we were playing which was either SUU, Cedar High, or Canyon View. Every one of our matches the first day were at different locations. It was soo crazy.

My first match went really well and I won the girl that I played 6-0, 6-0. Marqui also won her first singles match. My second match that night didn't go very well because this girl was AMAZING. I lost by a TON! Marqui also lost her second match. Me and marqui both won our third match. I wont my third match 6-2, 6-1. Our fourth match we had to play against each other. I won Marqui 6-1, 6-2. That means she was out of the tournament because she had lost two matches, but she got 4th so that's good. The next day I played for 2nd place. I had to play against a girl that Marqui had lost to so I was nervous. I played against her and I won her 6-4, 6-0. It was so exciting! I could NOT believe that I got 2nd place! The girl that got first sooo deserved it because she kicked everybodies butt! She was REALLY good. I won everybody else by a ton, and she beat me by a ton, so that just shows really how good she is!

Marqui and I won our first match by forfit. We also won our second match by forfit. There were these boys doubles there (they were SOOO freaking cute!) who were there and they had a forfit also, so we played against them. We won! It's not like it really counted, but it was soo fun to play against them. They were super funny and WAY super cute. haha :) The next day we played for the finals. We won the girls 6-2, 6-0. The girls that we won for Gold ended up getting the Silver, so even though we lost our other matches by forfit, we could've EASILY by any of the other teams because we won those girls by alot. They were actually a really good team, they played good, but we played REALLY good.

I just thought I would post this because it was way awesome that I got the gold in doubles and silver in singles. I had such a blast. Tennis is my favorite. I'm also glad that I got to stay at my brother's house. My sister in law cooked me good food, and I got to play with my adorable nieces. They are going to be tennis players just like me. They wanted to go play with me in all of my matches and everywhere I went, they wanted to go. I just love them soo much!

I also thought that it was way funny how everything ended up. I wasn't even going to get to go in the first place, we got there and won the first two matches by forfit, and I got two medals! It was crazy, but fun. :)
